The short version: We don’t require an account, we never ask for your name or email, and your questions are never typed, stored, or transmitted — you simply hold them in mind. We don’t use advertising or third-party trackers, and we don’t sell data. Ever.
This policy explains what The Book of Answers (“the app”, “we”, “us”) does and does not collect. It applies to the iOS app published by shonenada.
Information we do not collect
Your questions. The app has no text field for your question — you keep it in your mind. Nothing about the question ever leaves your device.
Personal identity. No name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, location, or account of any kind.
Advertising identifiers. The app contains no ad networks and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Information the app does send
To deliver an answer and keep the service healthy, the app communicates with our own server and a diagnostics provider. None of this identifies you.
Device attestation. The app uses Apple’s App Attest to generate a cryptographic key unique to your app installation and sends the resulting attestation to our server. This confirms requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app (anti-abuse). It is not tied to your Apple ID or personal identity.
Answer requests. When you reveal an answer, the app asks our server for a card and sends only your device’s preferred language (for example, “en”) along with the attestation above. If the request fails or you are offline, the app replies from a built-in set of answers instead.
Card images. Illustrated cards may be downloaded from our server and cached locally on your device. The cache stays on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
Diagnostics & performance. To find crashes and slow requests, the app sends limited technical telemetry to Axiom (our diagnostics processor): app version and build number, a generic device type (e.g. “iPhone”), operating-system name and version, a random per-session identifier that is not linked to you, event timestamps, and network-request metadata (server host, path, response status, and timing). This contains no personal information and no answer content.
How this maps to Apple’s privacy labels
The only data collected is Diagnostics (crash and performance data), used solely for App Functionality. It is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across apps or websites.
How information is used
To return an answer card in your language.
To protect the service from abuse and automated misuse.
To diagnose crashes, errors, and performance problems so we can improve the app.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade any data. Technical diagnostics are processed on our behalf by Axiom purely to operate and improve the app. We may disclose information if required by law.
Data retention
Diagnostic events are retained only as long as needed to monitor and improve the service, then expire automatically. Card-image caches live on your device and are cleared when you delete the app. Because there is no account, there is no personal profile to retain.
Children’s privacy
The app is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your choices
You can stop all data transmission at any time by turning off network access for the app in iOS Settings, or by deleting the app, which removes all locally stored data. For any privacy question or request, contact us below.
